Copper thickness, also known as copper weight, is one of the most important factors in the printed circuit board design. Copper weight is the weight of copper in the 1 sq. area. It is defined in ounces (oz/ft2).The current carrying capacity of the printed circuit board entirely depends on the thickness of the copper trace. The copper thickness is also considered while calculating the trace impedance in high speed and RF digital circuits. The copper weight requirements of PCBs can vary as per their current carrying requirements. At Twisted Traces, we offer a variety of copper trace weights to match clients PCB design requirements.
PCB Copper Weights/Thickness Capabilities
At Twisted Traces, we help clients to design their PCBs in any of the following copper weights.
|Inner Layer||0.5oz, 1oz, 2oz, 3oz, 4oz, 5oz, 6oz|
|Outer Layer||1/3oz, 0.5oz, 1oz, 2oz, 3oz, 4oz, 5oz, 6oz|
- ½ Oz Copper (0.7 Mils): We can provide the PCB with ½ or 0.5 Oz copper weight on the inner layer. This copper weight is preferred for non-standard or specific circuit boards. ½ Oz is also a regular copper weight preferred for the outer layers of the PCB with 1 Oz copper weight selection.
- 1 Oz Copper (1.4 Mils): This is a standard copper weight for internal layers, and external layers of the PCB. The finished copper weights will add to 2 Oz.
- 2 Oz Copper (2.8 Mils): This is a standard internal and external layer copper weight for the PCBs with 3 Oz finished copper weights.
